INTRODUCTION

What is modern studies?

Modern studies is the social, political and economic study of local, national and international issues. Modern Studies is unique to the Scottish Schools curriculum. Modern Studies can be found in the Scottish Schools curriculum at a number of stages. People in Society element of Environmental Studies which takes place from Primary 1 to Secondary 2, in Standard Grade modern studies, Access social studies, Intermediate 1&2 modern studies, Higher modern studies and Advanced Higher modern studies.
